Finally, we may actually be on the cusp of creating the all-important Rail Transit Agency needed to bring passenger rail back to the Lehigh Valley.  Yesterday morning (4/7/14) I met with Bethlehem’s Legal Bureau to flesh out the language of the ordinance/resolution needed by all 3 cities (Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton) to move ahead.  This is a fairly straight-forward process of the cities all stating their intentions, (via the resolution or ordinance) followed by their jointly filing the articles of incorporation which will include naming initial board members.  Once that process is complete, SMART/LV will then be real and official.

These documents may be completed by Bethlehem as soon as the end of this week, and will then be forwarded to Easton & Allentown for their adoption. While there are State guidelines & timelines to adhere to, the entire process can be completed in as little as 60 days.  We then will be able to apply for a little State funding to get things underway & begin the real work of bringing this to fruition in our lifetime.

While this is certainly not the endgame just yet, or even the beginning of the end, but it is finally the end of the beginning.  This will provide the much-needed spark that will enable us to start tackling the million and one things that need to be done next, and that accounts for just the first week!!
